Sales tax permit (seller's permit)

A state registration that lets a seller collect its sales tax and buy stock for resale tax-free; needed once there's nexus, and not a business licence.

The detail

What it means in practice.

Depending on the state, it's called a seller's permit, sales tax permit, resale licence or certificate of registration. The state issues it free or for a small fee once the seller registers, and it's the basis for a resale certificate. Premium includes registration in one state, and a company with nexus nowhere needs none.
