02The straight answer

Should a founder abroad form in Kansas?

Kansas got cheaper in 2026. Forming an LLC now costs $90, and the information report is due every second year, also $90 online, so five years cost a little less than Wyoming. The report is the problem for a founder abroad. It has to list every member who owns 5% or more of the company, with an address where they can be found, and Kansas publishes its filings online. Wyoming costs a little more and asks for none of that.

Kansas is right anyway when

  • You'll have staff, an office, a warehouse or property in the state

Yes, on the information report. Every member who owns 5% or more of the company's capital is named, with an address where they can regularly be found. The report is filed every two years, and the Secretary of State treats every filing as a public record that can be viewed online.

Yes. Kansas, like every state, doesn't require an LLC's owners to be US citizens or residents. It does require a resident agent, Kansas's name for a registered agent, with a street address in Kansas. Its recurring filing is due by 15 April every second year, starting two years after the LLC is formed.

It costs $90 to file, and then $90 every two years. Over five years that comes to $270 in state charges. A Wyoming LLC costs $342.40 over the same five years.

No. We file in Wyoming and Delaware only. For a founder outside the US, they're the two states worth being in, and we'd rather know two states well than fifty a little. If your business will have staff, an office, stock or property in Kansas, it'll need to register there whichever state formed it, and we'll tell you so before you order.
