Louisiana taxes an owner's share of profit earned in Louisiana. A non-resident owner with no Louisiana activity generally owes none, and an LLC taxed as a partnership pays no franchise tax.

The public record

The initial report filed with the articles names the managers, or the members if they manage the LLC themselves, with a street address for each, and it's public on the state's business search.

02The straight answer

Should a founder abroad form in Louisiana?

Louisiana is modestly priced, at $125 to form and $35 a year from October 2026, but it isn't private. The initial report filed with the articles names the managers, or the members who run the company, with a street address for each, and Louisiana's business search shows them. For a business in New Orleans or Baton Rouge, that's a normal cost of being there. For a founder abroad, Wyoming costs a little more over five years and keeps your name out of it.

Questions about a Louisiana LLC.

If yours is not here, email us at [email protected] before you order.

Yes. Act 921 of 2026 raised the Secretary of State's fees from 1 October 2026. Filing articles of organization went from $100 to $125, and the annual report from $30 to $35.

Yes. Louisiana, like every state, doesn't require an LLC's owners to be US citizens or residents. It does require a registered agent with a street address in Louisiana. Its recurring filing is due by the anniversary of the LLC's formation each year, starting the year after.

It costs $125 to file, and then $35 a year. Over five years that comes to $265 in state charges. A Wyoming LLC costs $342.40 over the same five years.

No. We file in Wyoming and Delaware only. For a founder outside the US, they're the two states worth being in, and we'd rather know two states well than fifty a little. If your business will have staff, an office, stock or property in Louisiana, it'll need to register there whichever state formed it, and we'll tell you so before you order.
